Description
To be able to learn how to swim children must be relaxed and confident in the water, thus enabling their confidence to grow.
Having the confidence to attempt to do things that was previously deemed outside a swimmers comfort zone is a milestone to celebrate. For many it can take a lot of encouragement and reassurance from their swimming teacher and parents alike to attempt certain tasks.
This award is to congratulate children on their constant hard-work, development and progression as they constantly keep trying to face their worries and pushed as their programs change and become more challenging.
Can be awarded several times for different aspects of swimming or skills involved that a swimmer may find challenging or show reluctance to try.
This award also signifies to the swimmer that the teacher has seen the swimmer step out their comfort zone to attempt and not necessarily succeed in a new task/skill.
Additional needs
This award is designed for a wide ranging usage, it should be used as an intermediary to celebrate getting closer to a skill or seeing a swimmer display confidence in a skill or the water for the 1st time.
Building confidence in the water is unique to each and every swimmer especially if they have previously experienced worrying encounter or nervousness about the sensation of the water feeling on their face/ears/nose
As we all know in aquatics, seeing swimmers confidence grow in the water is a joy to behold and celebrates a positive start of their aquatic journey.
Lesson ideas
Using and building off what solid base the swimmer has to encourage them to try new skills.
Games like Simple Simon games encourage participants to do things they are confident in and mixing with some they are not so confident in, making it easier to build on established skills.
Remember to start on a skill the swimmer has secured and encourage them to make the next step no matter how small it is.
