Description

Spot treasure is associated with part of the submersion area in swimming.

This is a fun way to encourage the child to prolong a look underwater and become at ease with water on their face, in their ears and mouth. The swimmer must perform a total face/head submersion that is long enough to locate and identify objects underwater. Being confident underwater also will help with the swimmers orientation underwater.

With the swimmer having an activity to perform they are more likely to place their face in longer, especially if others in the group are searching too.

Lesson ideas

This is for swimmers who are confident with getting their face wet.

Ideas for lengthening the time a swimmer places their face into the water can include games.

Try sinking several coloured or numbers on sinkers into areas of the lesson area, you can start off with swimmers holding the side and looking to find different ones and say in turn what they have seen. Progressing to holding a float and placing head in water whilst in motion and looking for sunken treasure. Keeping the swimmer occupied can increase the amount of times their face goes in the water and for longer times too.

If a swimmer can see someone else trying to do a task then they are more likely to try it too. If a teacher leads through example in the introduction of new areas to be explored it can break down the initial barrier of a swimmer not wanting to try it.

Colours displayed may differ slightly from the actual product due to various factors like screen display, lighting, or the way different people perceive colours.
