Description

The first of the self propelling awards, independently achieved, over a distance with aids. This award celebrates swimmers being able to confidently move unsupported in a relaxed and happy manner feeling at ease and confident in the water.

A suggested distance is 5m either to a wall or adult.

Additional needs

Being achieved by self propelling and independently achieved, this is key mile stone with the swimmer being relaxed, confident and able to propel themselves in the water.

There is no clear identified way in how the swimmer is propelling themselves, with aids on, in the water, again being fully inclusive.

This award may also be extended to propelling themselves in the water towards or around someone developing social interaction.

Lesson Ideas

Lesson ideas can include group activities that involve swimmers independently swimming away to follow teacher instructions The swimmer has an active role to play in the games and confidently executes this.

Encouragement for this confident swimmer to show others in the group what is asked of them when asked.

A good understanding of pool etiquette and behaviour is expected as well.

A swimmer needs to be able to demonstrate rotating, confident swimming on both front and back and at ease with leaving a safe place to swim from.

I’m a little fish shows competence in all areas in the first stage of swimming which include getting their face wet, listening for fishes, change direction whilst in motion and showing positive use of both arms and legs to propel forward.

Colours displayed may differ slightly from the actual product due to various factors like screen display, lighting, or the way different people perceive colours.
