Description

What an achievement this award is.

This award praises the swimmer on their attempts to swim unaided. Celebrating the first short distance travelled (suggested distance 2-3m on either their back or front) by an unaided/unsupported swimmer. Which we feel is the major step forward in ability and confidence between swimming with aids and getting their 5m badge.

The technique doesn’t have to be there yet as we are only promoting the unaided/unsupported movement of the swimmer through the water.

Additional needs

Lesson ideas

Encourage the swimmer to push away from a safe point and to start self propelling themselves forward to a given point eg, held woggle or person.

It may help if you talk to the swimmer whilst they attempt it and also you may find it easier to keep eye contact with them as they can focus on you and your instructions.

Remind the swimmer that if their aids are off they have to hold the side until instructed. Also inform Lifeguards, helpers that their aid/s are removed.

For swimmers who are unsure about their belt being removed,  their float belt can be replaced it with a ‘Magic belt’ that you can’t see the float blocks on it (just the cord or strapping that is the same as the belts with floats and tied around them the same. It can help with their confidence as it still feels like they are wearing a belt.

Colours displayed may differ slightly from the actual product due to various factors like screen display, lighting, or the way different people perceive colours.
