Description

Ability to independently swim (with/out aids) to retrieve and return an object from water. This award can be issued multiple times to suit your needs.

Collect is a fun but important skill to learn and can be issued for collecting a floating item or one that has been purposely sunk then returning it to a designated space.

Again this award can be awarded for use with aids and/or without aids, or above collection or underwater collection of an item to suit which ever is best for your scheme.

Additional needs

Children with any disability are always brave and even more so when activities involve them to be more independent in activities.

Collect encourages the child to collect items on their own (with or without aids) which shows an increase in confidence in themselves, their ability and independence.

This award is open to use as you wish, as can be re-issued when needed if another aspect of Collect has been achieved eg, above water and Underwater collection or with and then without aids.

Lesson ideas

Collect is a great way of including everyone in the group in a game.

It can involve sorting an array of coloured floating or sinking objects underwater for collection and taking to a specific area. This can be a team event or individually depending on what swimmers are collecting.

It could be made into a race game or a search for a specific item amongst other things. Collection can be from floating objects, items placed on floats etc, collect and item and throw it through the respective coloured hoop or collecting an item from a person.

Items can be returned by many means depending on what item they are collecting i.e, using their arms and pushing a ball or similar, so no contact, or holding the item and arms out in front so propulsion is with their legs or placing item retrieved onto a float and kicking it back.

Colours displayed may differ slightly from the actual product due to various factors like screen display, lighting, or the way different people perceive colours.
