Description

This award is to celebrate the development of a recognisable freestyle arm/leg movement by the swimmer who is self propelled/unaided

This award is for those swimmers who are developing a good clearly distinguishable Freestyle stroke, with the ability to place their face into the water to blow bubbles regularly whilst in motion.

Legs need to be straight, with toes breaking the surface and their body in an horizontal position on the waters surface. Arm recovery needs to be over the water surface and alternate. To be awarded this certificate, the swimmer needs to be confident in self propelling and have a recognisable Freestyle stroke, unaided over 5m.

The intensity of this award is at your discretion. We suggest the distance to be covered between 3-5m. You may require your swimmer to be competent in the breathe to the side action before awarding this certificate.

Also available in the Watch me distance awards is the Start Swimming Award

Additional needs

Lesson ideas

To accomplish this award the swimmer needs to be secure in all aspects of Freestyle and be competent in its deliverance.

Work on each individual aspect of Freestyle, body positioning, leg movement, arm direction and position. Allowing the swimmer regular opportunities to try putting it all together.

Practice push off’s from the wall progressing to face in push off’s then to possibly push and glides and then push and glide into swimming. The momentum will help the swimmer to start moving and they may find it easier to start than from a wall start alone.

Increase the distance each time a swimmer has to cover, remember eye contact and continual reassurance and praise goes a long way.

Colours displayed may differ slightly from the actual product due to various factors like screen display, lighting, or the way different people perceive colours.
